Meet Dr. Ansley Bender

Nice to meet you!

I’m a clinical psychologist licensed to see clients in New York State. My specialities include PTSD and trauma-related disorders, anxiety, depression, and women’s mental health. I also enjoy helping clients manage strong negative emotions, improve their relationships, and cope with life stress and transitions. My approach to therapy reflects a balance between insight and change; my ultimate goal is for you to leave therapy with greater clarity about yourself (your early influences, your current patterns, your values guiding a path forward) and with the tools needed to build the life you desire. I describe my therapeutic style as warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental. My hope is that therapy can provide the foundation of safety, security, and acceptance from which we best grow and change.

A little about my training… I earned my B.A. in Psychology from the University of Kansas, graduating with honors and in the top 3% of my graduating class. I completed my M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of South Florida in Tampa. During grad school, I trained at various clinical settings, including our program’s community outpatient clinic, a child/adolescent partial hospitalization program, a Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital, and a private practice. I completed my full-time predoctoral clinical internship at the Orlando VA Medical Center, with rotations in the PTSD Clinic, Residential Mental Health and Substance Use Treatment Program, and Primary Care Mental Health Integration. After graduating, I pursued advanced training in PTSD and trauma-related disorders, completing my postdoctoral fellowship at the Manhattan Campus of the New York Harbor VA Hospital. I have worked with individuals across the lifespan, and currently provide services to adolescents, young adults, and adults.

In my free time, I enjoy visiting the city’s parks and museums, going for runs, reading, and playing with my dog, Joey. I am always taking recommendations for podcasts and books (especially psychological thrillers!). If it seems like we might be a good fit, please reach out so we can schedule an appointment or consultation.
